Nicoles experience allowed for nuanced comparisons on how makeup and social media influences both insecurities and self-perception. The responses from this set of interviews actively shaped The Beholder by adding a sense of community and value especially as insecurities can feel isolating.
We used bright pigments in different areas of the face to signify acne as an overwhelming, unavoidable presence. Nicole also highlighted how she felt the need to cover up any resemblance of acne. To convey this we added sketchy black outlines of smiley faces and flowers to signify the use of pimple patches. To finsih, we added a bold red lip to finish the look to represent how powerful our words and view of self can be in our everyday.
